There really is no way to tell...some babies are on it for just days, while some use it for weeks (like my son). It just depends on how well your baby keeps their oxegen saturation up by theirself. I know how hard it is to just wait, not knowing when things will look up, but really thats all you can do. Rest assured that your baby will come off this machine, and things will get better. You just have to be patient. Good luck, we're sending our prayers your way. Keep us posted.

Until he can maintain his saturations while sleeping on his own. Every child is different so don't push too hard for discontinuing this. Your doctor will give you an indication when they feel the child is ready.

I believe only a doctor will know for sure. If I was to say anytime at all would give false hope of getting the little one home. Hope he is doing ok and MOM too.

Many Premies born this early have chronic lung disease. They can have problems with their lungs for most of their childhood. Every child is different, so you cannot say how long they'll need CPAP, or oxygen, for that matter. Many premies have to go home on oxygen, because their premature lungs can't absorb oxygen properly. Does your baby have apnea (stops breathing) spells? That is probably why your baby is on CPAP.
The hospital I work at (in a Neonatal ICU) puts these infant's on caffeine to stop the apnea (which most babies outgrow eventually). But they still may need oxygen without the CPAP.
Please be sure to keep your baby away from crowds and sick people when you get him (or her) home. Premies are so susseptable to catching any kind of respiratory illness. It's best to not bring them out in public until they have had the first round of their immunizations. And make everyone wash their hands before touching your baby! Best of luck to you and your little one.

Hey girl....I don't know the answer to your question, but I wanted to say "hi" and tell you how glad I am that your little miracle is still doing well. Please keep me posted!!
