How can I prove my medication is responsible for my condition? (lupus)?!

Question: The medication I was taking was making me very ill, forgetful, I lost 3 stones and have an allergy to almost every thing. wheat, gluetin, citrus, loads more... As soon as I weened myself of this (because I realised what was happening) I got better, I ended up with ulceration, and all sorts. I have tissue damage around the eyes and ends of my fingers and thumbs. The go black and sometimes the palm of my hands.

If you have symptoms while taking a drug, and those symptoms go away upon discontinuation of taking that drug, chances are, you are sensitive to that drug. Not as bad as a severe immediate allergic reaction, but a sensitivity.

But from what you are describing, it doesn't sound like you are experiencing drug induced lupus erythematosis - DIL. DIL can be triggered by the chronic use of certain drugs, and there are 38 known medications that can cause DIL, but the 3 main ones are: hydralazine, procainamide, and isoniazid. The symptoms of DIL include: fever, high blood pressure, skin lesions, and arthritis.

I would tell your doctor about what's happening, and see if you can't be put on another drug. I have a whole list of drugs that I don't take because of serious sensitivities. Not allergic, but as having a history of having reactions bad enough to not prescribe them anymore. Doxycycline is one of them, for example. I'm not allergic, but I can't stand up straight when I'm on it.

Good luck, and well wishes for your heath!

I would recommend seeing not just an allergist, but an immunologist. They have a broad understanding of allergies and auto immunde disorders, like Lupus. They can do a variety of different testing to find out and prove that your meds are making you sick. Not all allergists are up on handling this so that is why I suggest an immunologist.

Good luck
