Asthma peak flow meter levels?!

Question: I have just been released from I.C.U for the second time in one month I'm 23 and I have a peak flow of 510 at best. So when do I know when I need to go to hospital? What peak flow level would be considered low enough for hospital?

You should ask your doctor (best if you have a respiratory specialist) for an asthma action plan. The asthma action plan will tell you exactly what you should do. Not all asthma action plan are same. The asthma acton plan is written up or drawn up for you by your doctor.

I hoped you can get a bottle of cod-liver oil to nourish and strengthen your lungs. :-)

Best wishes, stay healthy and stay away from the ICU as long as possible..

Hth.. :-)

P.S. also try to keep a small asthma diary (written on a daily basis) so you will know if you need to pay your doctor a visit (if you use your reliever inhaler more than the times your doctor recommend)..

EDIT: Sorry, i forgot to add this into my post.. The hospital will use your age, weight, height and compare with a chart (which they will have in every hospitals). They will also do some formulas and convert everything into precentage. If your percentage for your peak flow is lower than 80%, you are in moderate level and if you percentage falls below 50%, you are in the red zone..

Consult a respiratory specialist for medical advices. Don't go to a GP because they are not specialised in the respiratory field..

If you are at 50% or below of your best peak flow you should see your dr immediately.
