Do I need to throw away stuffed animals that have mold on them?!

Question: I am getting ready to move and I cleaned out my closet to find that one wall has two huge patches of blackish, green, spotty yellow mold. It is on down blankets, stuffed animals, clothes, and other blankets. What should I do? Throw it all away? Help!

Unfortunately, yes, you need to throw the items away. Mold can be extremely toxic. I also strongly recommend that you wear a mask and gloves when handling the items. Carefully put them in a plastic garbage bag, dispose. Shower yourself well when finished. You want to stir up the LEAST amount of mold spores and don't want it to get into your lungs or on anything else. You don't want to carry it to your new home, either. Remember, you can replace belongings, just not your health.

umm throw them away thats gross! & un helthy 4 u!

you should throw it away. mold can make you sick if you inhale the spores. plus thats a little gross =/ sorry

i would just put it all in the washing machine on a hot wash and air on the clothes line in the sunshine - repeat if still there - if you dont want the items maybe you could wash them and donate to charity?

i would throw it all away, but if you want to keep it you can wash your clothes and stuff with tide and 1 cup of bleach in very hot water,it should kill the mold.i had to throw away some of my stuff that i had in my closet because of mold.also if you wash with bleach you are going to have very small orange spots on your clothes and stuff.

I would try to "save them" by taking them to a professional and reputable cleaners ; I am sure that some of these stuffed animals are childhood friends - good luck !

First of all, get a mold inspection pronto. Mold is highly dangerous and can cause numerous health problems. Bleach everything, even the walls, and throw away any that might look like they are badly infected. But definetly get an inspector in there. PRONTO. I would say throw everything away. Mold is a highly infectous fungus and I would say nothing that its on can be saved. Try the bleach, but as before it offers no garuntees.

Sorry to hear that!
Best of luck

Dont listen to them they know nothing! Wash in bleach ya know regular amount dont over do it. then HANG moldy things in the SUNSHINE to dry. Sunlight kills the mold. Dryers wont do it . Its the ultra violet rays.
