Anyone who has had a colonoscopy, please help!~?!

Question: I am scheduled to have a colonoscopy Wednesday and I am terrified. I am not familiar with this, went on google and researched some. I want to know if this procedure is painful after it's over (their gonna knock me out), how fast do you recover, what to expect, etc?

I had one done w/o sedation in December. It wasn't painful at all, and I watched the entire thing on the monitor, including the removal of a polyp. Your colon has no nerve endings so it's virtually impossible to feel any pain. For the prep I took cherry flavored Magnesium Citrate that I refridgeraged. It didn't taste bad at all, and clean you out very well. Just make sure you stay close to a rest room, and keep wet wipes because you'll need them.
Don't let anyone scare you, this is nothing to be afraid of, and I'm glad I went because I had been bleeding for a few weeks, and a pre-cancerous 5mm polyp was found. Now I'm considered to be a "high risk" and need to go more frequently than the average person....but at least I found the problem, and I don't have cancer or worse.
Best of luck to you, I'll keep you in my prayers.
(Feel free to email me if you have any questions and to tell me how things went.)\
PS make sure you get a GOOD doctor that has lots of experience and that you feel comforable with. And under NO cicumstances let them use the drug Versed on you for this procedure!!!!!!

They will sedate you. When it's done, you will be in the recovery room for about an hour and then you should be able to go home -- you won't be able to drive yourself home so someone should go with you. No after pain at all.

no, it is nothing to be terrified of, after, you will have to go to the bathroom, and you will pass a lot of gas because they inflate your bowel during the procedure. The anesthesia wears off very quickly and you will be up and about and fine in short order.

Relax! The procedure isn't painful before or after! Maybe a little uncofortable b/c your gassy but that's about it! Acutally the worst part was the prep! Having to take those pills! I crapped sooo much I didn't think anything was left! Sorry TMI! But I promise you will be fine! You will be a little groggy but you'll do great! My friend even went shopping after hers, I couldn't I was tooo tired! Good Luck

actually the worse part was drinking all that laxative the night before , the test was a breeze .

you will have some discomfort after the fact,a mild pain killer will b given,no biggy. eat light and fibery for a coulpe of days and you should be just fine, try not to sweat the details unilt you get the results, it dont help, and above all else, say your prayers, it may come back no good but i found peace with myself by praying,,,,,

not painful at all. Came right around after the surgery. Soon as the anesthesia wore off, I went home. No residual pain in any form. Don't sweat it.

I've had two and they were both very easy. I think the worst part is the prep beforehand (the clear liquids diet and the laxatives). Anyway, afterward the only discomfort I experienced was some gas (they use some kind of air/gas to open the colon around the scope so they can see better). I was pretty tired the rest of that day but it was probably a combination of the anesthesia and the no-food from the days before. The next day I was fine but I was a little careful about what I ate for a couple of days. Otherwise, no problems at all.
