What are they looking for in a colonoscopy?!

Question: What kinds of things are they looking for in a colonoscopy? I am going for one tomorrow and I am scared and I want to know what their looking for. They must have some idea. I am young (31) and am being sent beause I have been diagnosed with Colitis (through a cat scan) but they don't know any more they say. What exactly are they looking for and do they believe it may be cancer?

I just had a colonoscopy about 3 weeks ago. I too am young, I'm only 25. The reason they need to do a colonoscopy is so they can take biopsies and have them analyzed. This does not mean they think you have cancer. It is a way to try to narrow down the cause of your colitis so they can treat it more effectively. I was afraid when I went also but it was not bad at all. I did not feel any discomfort at all during or after the procedure. They are also able to see where the inflammation is and pin point where in your colon the problem is. If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me.

stepwise ,they search for any thing abnormal(pathological -like mucosal ulcerations ,masses ,bleeding ,erosions ulcers etc ,,)if anything suspicious comes up it might be spot diagnosis or a biopsy is taken to confirm the diagnosis

small rodents and toys
