my sister gives my 16 year old niece coffee or hot chocolate

caffeinated drink. Caffeine is a mild natural bronchodialator.

Peppermints or mentholated cough drops

Vicks vapor rub

My remedy is to get in my car and go the nearest store/pharmacy and get something over the counter like Primatene. I can't stand the feeling of an asthma attack and am too much of a wimp(I guess) to try and tough it out with home remedies. They just don't work that great(for me) and take waaaaayyyyyyyy too long for my liking. Once I had no money, it was a Sunday(so no docs), and I had an allergy induced asthma attack(stupid neighbor's cat). I suffered with wheezing, tight chest, clogged bronchial tubes for over 6 hours before it finally decided to finally calm down. I was in the shower attempting the hot steam method.....sat hunched over a hot pan of water with a towel around my head.....tried increasing my liquid intake.......tried hot liquids. I didn't have any mentholated products at home and I would have tried them if I did. The attack I had was not life threatening, it just really, really sucked. Even the next morning I could still feel the effects and was still coughing up/clearing out bronchial secretions. I swore then that I would never be without some sort of asthma medication in the house.
