Question: You like many others were blinded by the culture of the day. Smoking was common place and even endorsed by the medical profession at one time.

Your lungs have suffered the damage of a lack of wisdom. You are not alone. CPOD is running rampid in this country due to aging smokers.

Most doctors reccomend light execrise, such as walking on a treadmill.

who told you to smoke for 48 years you loser....
didnt you realise it leads to breathing trouble??? die smoking..

Because all bodies are different and the result is the same.
Smart choice. NOT.

it takes years for the effects to build up enough to see the problems.

Chronic conditions, like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or other respiratory conditions take years to develop. COPD is an overall term for disorders like chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Even though you stopped smoking already, your respiratory system is damaged and you can now see effects from this damage more obviously...

I think your lungs gradually lose capacity...I remember way back in 1968 when all my Navy buddies were trying it, well I refused to do it. They were just starting to publish stuff about how bad smoking was.
