Help! UTI & Scared to take Cipro!?!

Question: I was diagnosed with a UTI about a week ago, in total i am going on about 2 weeks of being in constant pain~Burning when i pee, overactive bladder, foul smelling urine.

After researching Cipro i read some very disturbing side effects, Paranoia, confusion, hallucinations, dizziness, and exhaustion

I am constantly on the road for work, and i am worried that lucky me would be the one percent that develops these adverse symptoms. And i cannot see myself taking a week off work for a UTI

Any advice? Should i contact my doctor and try to have him prescribe something else? Would they even do that? Is it possible for UTI's to go away without medication?

Don't worry about it and take it as directed. You have to remember that during clinical trials, if even one person reports something, they have to publish it in the drug information documents....say someone took Cipro during clinical trials and they got a headache....even if the headache was caused by something other that the medication, they still have to list is as a possible side effect.

Other than a true reaction (allergic), side effects are pretty rare for antibiotics...true, there's the issue of tolerating it and everyone is different, but I wouldn't give it second though and take as prescribed.

Hope this helped & have a blessed evening :-)

Those are very rare side effects and all antibiotics have them you shouldnt worry.

Depends on how bad the infection is. You can try eating cranberries (best choice) or drinking cranberry juice (not mixed, the straight stuff) or you can drink warm water with cinnamon in it several times a day. But the Cipro side effects are very rare.

no, you need an antibiotic! call your doc or just take cipro.

Contact the Dr, but without medication...you will not get better...

well considering if you dont take the med, you could go septic (ie bacteria running rampant in your bloodstream). Cipro is a potent antibiotic, but it does the trick, and risking those side effects for a week sounds a hell of a lot better than dying. Take the pills!!!!! UTI's that have gone untreated for a long time need antibiotics. Bactrim DS would be a possible alternative if you are not allergic to sulfonamides.

if you are afraid to do what a medically trained professional has told you to do, forget about it. Yahoo isn't any better.

There will always be side effects with all medications. If you are to worried about this one medication I know there are several other medications that can be prescribed for a UTI.
trimethoprim, cephalosporins, nitrofurantoin, or a fluoroquinolone, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin

hey well i have had so many problems with my bladder and i have had UTI'S since i was a little girl you need to take that med. or it will go up to your kidneys and give you a Kinney infection those do not feel very good

Well if you are in pain why not take your chances and see what the medicine does who to say that it will cause you all that. I just got over a UTI and if you feel like I feel take the medicine.

If you are concerened go back to the doctor and ask them for another medicine. I took Bactrim.
