Skin around fingernails - what the heck is going on?!

Question: The last two times I have gotten my nails done (pink and white), the skin under the front part and the skin all along the sides of the nail peels off. It is rather disturbing looking. Needless to say, I am NOT going back to this salon. However, does anyone know what could be the cause of this? Yes, I have tried lotions to help - No, it doesn't work.

I had this happen and mentioned it to my nail person. I told her that I thought I was allergic because my skin was really really itchy after having pink and whites done and then started peeling. She told me that it might be that I was allergic, but that it was more likely that she'd accidentally touched the surrounding skin with her Dremel tool. Since then, she's been extra careful to not touch the skin around the nail - top and bottom, and I've had far fewer problems. We also switched from acrylic to gel. This likely has less to do with hygiene at the shop where you're getting your nails done than it does with your nail stylist not being properly careful. You might try talking to her about it or finding out who in the shop is the most careful. I'm glad I did.

Allergy to the products used. I had artificial nails and got blisters everyplace the nail touched the skin around it and a rash anywhere I touched myself. My sister got a rash around her eyes from her nail polish - it gasses out for a long time, way past when it is dry.

You should go back to the salon that did it because they might not be cleaning their files ect.. If their not properly disinfecting it it could cause you to react especially if you have sensitive skin. Make sure you have taken the nails off so it doesnt get worse.
