Mono is caused by the Epstein Barr Virus. Once you have the virus you have it for life. You don't "pass it back and forth". However once she is over the illness the virus goes dormant but it can be re-activated. In most cases you have EBV your whole life and it never re-activates. In some people it does reactivate (like in me). There are tests doctors can do to determine the titers levels of the virus to see if it is dormant, slightly active or highly active. I suggest you wait until you are both over it because you don't want to risk reactiviation of the virus in her. Mono can cause some really bad things (I had it when I was 18 but was undiagnosed for a long time so it took me a long time to get over it)

No if you kiss you will just keep passing it back and forth and will not clear up.
