Is it Prozac that is making me so tired??!

Question: I have been taking Prozac (20mg) for about a month now, and ever since I started I have felt tired and drowsy all day. I had taken Prozac before, however it was only 10 mg and it was about 5 years ago. I recently started taking it again for anxiety issues.

I stopped taking it for about five days a few days after I started because I thought it might be making me tired, but I went back on it thinking I was talking myself into being tired!

Also, if I go off the Prozac how long will I be tired because it is in my system?

drowsiness is a side effect of Prozac but give a bit more time for your body to get used to the dosage, and DO NOT stop taking the medication without the supervision of your doctor. Prozac is an anti-anxiety medication and if you are depressed maybe your doctor could put you on another medication such as welbutrin which increases energy with lower incidence of side effects..depends on the individual but a lot of medication have that effect on people..Have your doctor draw some blood work to make sure there are no other medical issues going on as well...
good luck

Usually Prozac would make you feel less tired, but if you think it's making you tired, it probably is. You need to talk to your doctor about switching to another medication.

Be very, very careful about quitting this medication (or any anti-depressant) suddenly. You can get really bad withdrawal symptoms. That's why you need to talk to your doctor, who will probably wean you off gradually. Call your doctor tomorrow - don't put it off.

Also, remember that your pharmacy is a good source of information about prescriptions. Just call them and tell them you need to speak to a pharmacist about one of your prescriptions. That's what they go to school for.

At first it will make you tired. I took it once, its temporary. On a side note, Paxil, also an anti depressant, makes you VERY tired. Prozac is a better deal.

thats very possible

Hi, my Doc was going to put me on Prozac last year for depression i never had. I never went on Prozac. Prozac is a very bad medication and its going to be very hard to get off it. Try to heal your self with b complex pills vitamins one a day and fish oil pills this is what i done and now im fine.
