Exercise During a Bad Cold?!

Question: So, here's the problem. As of right now, I have a cold with severe congestion in my nose (as in, I can't breath out of my nose). Tonight, I did some cardio workout for 30 minutes. During this time, my shortness of breath was more so than usual. Afterwards, to say it lightly, I felt like crap (my chest was burning and I still had shortness of breath). I have since taken a shower and feel tremendously better. Should I be exercising with congestion this severe? How do you know when you are too sick to exercise?

Many athletes choose to "sweat it out" as far as colds go, but you must realize that you endurance is compromised from the infection in you respitory system. Reduce your normal work out by half, and build back slowly till you are healthy again. It should only be a couple of weeks at the most.

best to rest the body and let the immune system have that energy. You are too sick to exercise when you can not do it, but be smart and don't push yourself to that point.
