Any home remedies for chest congestion?!

Question: I've been sick (I think a cold) for about the last 5 days. It would be my sore throat, sinuses acting up, body feeling weak. But for about the last 2 days or so, it's only mainly been chest congestion that's been bothering me. I've been coughing pretty hard still, but its not really a sore throat anymore, i've been coughing lately to try to break up the mucus n stuff, but it doesnt help. Lately ive been coughing so hard to try and sooth my congestion that it's giving me headaches from the coughing. Thats about all thats bothering me now, my nose it still just a tiny bit runny, but nothing like it was. Any help? I've read that this is how some serious illnesses start out, and i just dont want to die anytime soon.. :)

I say take the hottest shower that you can stand and the steam will help to open your nose up. Get some Zicam it is the best along with cold ease cough drops from Wal-Mart1

www.earthclinic.com

Mucinex is over the counter and works good.
Just be sure to get the kind with the expectorant and the cough suppressant.

YOu need to get some vicks vapor rub and rub it on you chest then put a towel inside your shirt to keep it warm. Sleep with this on your chest all night and it will help break all that junk up and you should be feeling better in a few days. But do this at night until you feel its better. hope you get to feeling better.

Keep taking a decongestant before bed, try sleeping on your stomach. When you sleep on your side or back, mucus drains into your chest. I found this 30 years ago and cannot believe doctors do not shout it from the house tops.
I always liked one of the liquid, day or night, time products.

All cold bugs are different, take a different course, and last for different amounts of time.

For the congestion, I'd recommend boiling some water and placing your head over the pot, 1-2 feet away, with a towel draped over your head and the pot, so that you can inhale the steam. If you have it on hand, adding some lemon extract to the water would also be nice.

WARNING:
*Don't try if you use a gas stove, as we don't want your towel catching on fire. Be sure to keep it away from the heat source anyway.
*If the steam feels like more than you can bear, DON'T DO IT. Pull away for a moment and let yourself cool off. The goal here is to loosen the phlegm in your chest, not scald your face.

Also, try a search for "Natural expectorants" to clear up the congestion. Of course one of the best expectorants is good, cold water, which you should be drinking plent of anyway!

you might want to get checked out... for the heck of it. if you dont have health ins. there are lots of cash urgetnt cares. i know theres one here that is $50. i just got over bronchitis... and had those symptoms. i noticed one thing that really helped me was to sit in the bathroom with the shower on hot, and just inhale the steam. it will help a LOT to break up the congestion... they even have those shower steamer things at the store that have vapor in them... good luck and please try this... it was a life saver for me!

Well.....you need to drink as much water as you can...also some warm soups ( especially chicken soup...it really does help ). Don't lay down "all" the time, you don't want to let the mucous and congestion "pool" in your chest.

One thing that I use for bad chest congestion ( from your description..you qualify )...get some Vick's Vapo Rub, or some other brand. Rub it all over the front of your neck and chest and put a towel over it to protect a blanket you will put over that. I have done this in the past....and put several blankets on going to bed...you get kinda warm and I have awaken with little or no chest congestion. This is a rather " old time " approach to the problem. Doctors say it don't work....but my Grandparents did it to me when I was real little and I have never forgotten how well it works.

Get well soon....extended chest congestion can lead to pneumonia.
