A quick telling glucose test is HbA1c. It gives you your last 90 day average and it's hard to mislead. A normal reading used to be 6% to 7% glucose in your blood or just 6 to 7. However, this was lowered to 5 to 6.

Now, 6 to 7 is an indicator of pre-diabetes or daily read of 140 to 160.

Newly presenting type 1 diabetics often have symptoms of hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) You probably had some symptoms including increased urination, excessive thirst, sleepy, labored breathing. Most people get a fruity smell to their breath and pores.

An adult's target blood sugar range is usually around 80-120. Can vary slightly. For kids it's around 100-180. To have been diagnosed with diabetes you would've been outside that range, and most likely on the high end.

normal blood glucose levels (depending on the facility you go to) are 70 - 110. I am a diabetic and there were several tests done on me before i was diagnosed. they monitored my blood sugar for a week and then done a fasting blood glucose test on me as well. i was then diagnosed with hypoglycemia. my blood sugar runs very low and i take injections of glucagen to raise my blood sugar levels. but if your blood sugar runs high (hyperglycemia) they can give you meds to lower it to where it needs to be

Over 120 fasting.

My doctor told me that if a person has a blood glucose reading of 150 or more at fasting or 2 hours after a meal, then that person is considered a diabetic.

The first time I went to my doctor, mine was 125. This was a red flag to the doctor that I could be a diabetic. He did test and sure enough I am. Normal is: 60 - 120.
