Severe cold, turned to sinus infection and I think this might be allergies! HELP!

Question: Okay 2.5 weeks ago started to get a cold. About a week into it I noticed that I had stuffy nose sometimes and then a runny nose. It was colored at first (yellow goo), post nasal drip which is causing that cough that is so annyoying, itchy ears, tired/dry eyes and sometimes watery eyes, loss of taste, loss of smell, EXTREMELEY FATIGUED, muschle aches and pains.

On monday I crawled into the ER and she said I had viral thing plus a sinus infection. This is day 4 of my antibiotic treatment and I still feel like crap!

My nose is still stuffy and runny but the runny is "CLEAR" and there is loads of it.

Does this sound like ALLERGIES TO YOU?

CAN ALLERGIES MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE YOU'VE BEEN HIT MY A TRUCK? DEAD TIRED OVER HERE!

your description of feeling "like you've been hit by a truck" is spot on. i am allergic to house dust, mites and feathers and one antihistamine tablet per day helps me. also i have the sinus trouble, persistent headache, loss of smell, so I do the following to make me feel a little better.

I use a facial sauna machine with a few drops of eucalyptus oil (you could use menthol crystals or just plain water) for a good steam inhalation. Also, a real old grannie tip, put some boiling water into a cup, warm a spoon in it, dry the spoon and hold it into your eye sockets - it does bring relief from sinus pain. in general, be good to yourself, you may think that a sinus infection is a pretty minor thing but you are correct in all your descriptions of the various symptoms. To help build up your immune system what about trying echinacea - a friend prone to colds uses it from time to time - i dont think it is something you can take indefinitely.
be kind to yourself and get well soon

I used to get sinus infections in the late fall and winter so I went to a specialist . He told me that if your nose is runny and clear, then you have an allergy. If it is yellow or greenish, than you have a bad sinus infection. Yes, allergies can make you feel exhausted. I bought a Hepa portable air cleaner that I use at night to clean the air that you breathe. It does wonders for your allergy and gives you back your energy. My doctor suggested it and boy does it work!!! Try It!!!

hi
i feel sorry for you!

you just have a severe cold - touch of the flu.

this can take up to 8 (yes EIGHT) weeks to completely get over! ABs (antibiotics) are good for your sinuses (the 'clear' stuff is now free of bugs) but do nothing for a viral 'thing'.

the only way to get over this is to be patient with yourself, accept you are feeling bad and to let it run its course.

HINTS: rest, rest and rest some more.
drink lots of water, keep hydrated.
do NOT expect to feel better for a long time so you do not feel 'disappointed' or go looking for other excuses.
you WILL feel better after a while but just LET IT BE.

TIP: take paracetamol for headaches and muscle aches, not more than 1 gram four times a day though (as it says on the box)

CAUTION: please finish (as in TAKE ALL TABLETS) your course of ABs to prevent the bug from mutating into a resistant strain

AFTERTHOUGHT (but not unimportant!): you could try taking vitamin C supplements to build up your immune system. take a lot - some research says up to 12000 mg (yes, twelve thousand) has not been found to be harmful. perhaps stick with up to 3000 mg a day as it says on 'blackmores cold relief bio C 1000mg' available at most pharmacy outlets or on line. take it in 1000 mg doses (3x 1000 mg) to increase absorbtion as it is water soluable and any unused excess you will just pee out.

good luck and wish you a good recovery.
