Do you know if you can have a shingles outbreak after being vaccinated?!

Question: I had an outbreak of shingles almost two years ago. After being mis-diagnosed, my doctor offered me the vaccination one year ago. Today I discovered what looks like "the rash" in the same spot it was in before. Does anyone know if it's possible to have another outbreak after the vaccine?

Having chicken pox as a child or young adult is the precursor to shingles. Once the chicken pox episode in done, the virus (herpes zoster) lodges itself in the base of the spine and lays dormat for many years. With whatever the trigger is, it becomes active and follows certain nerve paths where it will appear in the form of blisters, redness, and lots of excrutiating pain. You can get it more than once, but chances are you won't. It can cause neuropathy, meaning nerve damage, which is why you can still feel it after the event is complete.

There a vaccines for several herpes viruses. You should probably consult another doctor for a second opinion. Also, if there is any residual pain, there are medicines that can help control that as well.

Good luck!

shingles is very itchy and contagus yes if being with some one with a outbrake. sorry

Sorry, you can get shingles many times.

No vaccine is 100% effective, but in people over 60 who have not had shingles, Zostavax has been shown to reduce the risk of a shingles outbreak by half and to help prevent painful postherpetic neuralgia in people who do get shingles.
