Prednisone Question ...?!

Question: My Dermatologist prescribed me 10mg of Prednisone, and i'm supposed to take 4 for the first 5 days, then 3 for the next 5 days, then 2, then one and then they're gone. It was prescribed for hives/rashes all over my chest/neck/face/arms bla bla bla bla.

SO I started taking them yesterday, and i did my nightly sit-ups for about 10 minutes and today I was having the WORST pain in my ab's, and my calf's and my arms.

I haven't experienced this before, is it because of my prednisone?

And I noticed my skin getting really dried out, and I have a wedding to attend on Saturday, is my skin going to clear up before then?

Eh, It's not like anything totally serious, I just tried searching this here and didn't find anything so I thought I'd ask just out of curiousity. Not a life or death question :)

Any feedback would be great!

The pain is definitely not from the prednisone. Prednisone does just the opposite - it can mask the pain from exercise. Prednisone works pretty fast,so the hives should be gone by then. It doesn't usually cause dry skin either. Take the prednisone in the morning right after you wake up - it will greatly reduce the side effects.

I work in a Pharmacy and Prednisone is commonly used to treat inflammation, which includes the skin. I have a feeling your pain is probably due to your workout regimen with the Prednisone side effects which is fatigue and abdominal pain.. If you did a workout involving your arms and calfs then that could be a contributing factor. As far as the dry skin that could be a side effect, but dont trust me on that. The best thing to do is ask your Pharmacist, the number should be on your prescription bottle or package. .

I don't know if the prednisone is the cause, but I will offer suggestions for the dry skin. Get some good moisturizing body wash for the shower (Olay is good), and as soon as you get out of the shower, lotion yourself down. Dermatologists recommend applying lotion within 3 minutes of getting out of the shower, after that, it won't absorb as well. If the hives and rashes were caused by something external, like soap, fragrance, etc, then get the unscented body wash and lotion. Lotions I recommend would be Aveeno, Olay, Neutrogena, Nivea, any good quality lotion.
