How long should a heart bypass last?!
Question: My dad had a quad heart bypass around 14 years ago and then made significant changes to his lifestyle, in terms of eating and exercise. He is now reasonably fit, though a little overweight, but has no significant symptoms, other than the occasional bit of tightening in his chest if he overdoes it. He's out every day though, walking the dog and and he works part time too (he's semi retired). I was saying to him that he should see his doctor for an exercise test as he hasn't had one for about five years, but the doctor wouldn't send him for one unless he was having symptoms, which he isn't.
I read somewhere that these grafts last 10-15 years and I wonder what he should do? If he is symptom free, then does that mean things are ok? Is it an automatic assumption that he will need a repeat op at some point...or do some peeople just go on to live normal lives after the one op?
Any help would be much appreciated. My dad is 62.

I had one in 1993 Tripple ///// age 42 // They tell you alot of thing but its your body and it will last year,s if you take care and look after yourself. Having it done again is something that does happen in some people but not all ....Good luck to you and your dad
I shouldn't worry how long your dads graft will last as long as he is feeling okay, if he does get any symptoms, then that is the time to see his doctor, worrying about it will cause a lot of stress for all the family
