Blood sugar.?!

Question: I took my blood sugar today about 15 minutes after I ate breakfast and it was 63. Does this mean I'm hypoglycemic? Could someone explain this to me? I thought your insulin rose after a meal?

The normal blood sugar level is between 80 and 120. 63 is a little low, but you still haven't fully digested your breakfast yet. I would take it again just before your next meal.

It's just a little low. Nothing to worry about. Hypoglycemia does mean low blood sugar, but that's only if you go below 50 for most people.

It should rise after a meal..

It does depending on what you eat, you should have taken it before a meal to see how low it was. I'd keep a log for a few days and in the meantime call your dr. and schedule an appt. to go over the #'s and have him order an A1c to see what your average BS level has been over the past few months.

Good luck!

Don't worry, just keep a log of your sugars for a few days. They should be between 80-120. If you go below 50 then eat some food (carbs) , get a doctors appointment, and have them check your a1c.

If none of what you ate included fast acting sugar (juice for example) then it can take 60-90 minutes to affect your blood sugar. Yes, you could be hypoglycemic. Don't base it on one test though. If you have continual low readings, and it's accompanied by headaches, nausea, and lightheadness you could check with a doctor.
