Does Smoking Really Cause Cancer...?!

Question: ...or is that an urban myth?

Answers: ...or is that an urban myth?

I believe it could BUT I also believe everyone has the cancer gene....either it activates or it doesnt. I have colon cancer, smoked for 20 years, but the docs say my lungs are healthy and strong. Guess I got it from the second hand smoke the goverment has been blowing up my butt for years :)

Of course it does, it'd be foolish to deny it.

Yes it does.

The lung cancer-smoking link is indisputable. Its certainly no myth.

Yes, it does. Billions of dollars of research have produced such undeniable evidence that not even the tobacco companies dispute it any more.

Here's more info: http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/facts...

no smoking causes lung cancer and this is because the tar from smoke like cloggs your lungs and it does something with your throat and you can get infections on your face and mouth. I suggest if you are smoking you should stop. Its gross

chances r more for smokers to get cancer;;; definately it not a myth. non smokers also get lung ca.only small chance as there r many other reasons for ca

smoking can,But many other things can there are hundreds some we don't know about yet, they are all different types,Basically it's poison of the blood that is the final thing.

I'm going to the wedding tomorrow, of a man in his mid sixties. His first wife died a slow and horrible death due to her smoking history. A few years ago, I went to see a co-worker in Ohio who was dying a slow and horrible death due to his smoking. About 25 or so years ago, a very well known lawyer in town died a slow and horrible death due to his smoking history. None of it was mythical. God Bless you.

Yes, it causes Cancer. however, everyone that smokes will not develop Cancer.

YES

My cancer was likely caused by the benzene in cigs. I was diagnosed with leukemia at 21, relapsed at 23 finally quit this past Spring. Today at 24 I have been smoke free for close to one year and have lost the last 3 years of my life because 10 years ago I wanted to look cool in front of some older people.

My family also smoked around me indoors for as long as I can remember.

Even if the smoker never does get cancer, anyone exposed to enough smoke of any kind will get some form of copd which in my opinion is worse than some of the cancers smoking is linked to.

Its not really the nicotine or the tobacco specifically that causes the cancer (although it is a drug and is damaging) it is the smoke irritating the lungs and all the other chemicals that are legally added to the tobacco most Americans get. Fresh tobacco has risks as well because it hasnt been processed and contains bacteria and fungus. All commercial tobacco in the us has these added chemicals.

Yes.

And not just lung cancer, although 90% of people with lung cancer are smokers. Mouth cancer, throat cancer, stomach cancer, kidney cancer and leukemia are all more common in smokers. See the table in the link below for the increased risk.

Certainly, and emphysema, bronchitis, tooth decay and yellowing, shortness of breath and addiction. It's just not fair.

yes, smoking can "cause" a whole host of cancers: lung, throat, lips, etc., just to name a few. google the components in cigarette smoke and you will be surprised how much "bad stuff" is in there. many of these components you would not touch with your hands.........

Remember that "Cancer" is not one thing, there are literally thousands of different types, and there are loads of things which can bring on any number of cancerous cell's. Smoking is proven to be one of these. It alone might not cause cancer, but because there are thousands of other things that are already causing these mutant cells - so by adding to the risk your making it more likely that cancerous cells will form.

it can -that doesnt mean it always will-cancer can be caused by lots of things- i know many smokers who yes have breathing problems(but then they are in their 70/80s) but i can honestly say i dont know anyone who has personally died from smoking related cancer-unfortunately i do know many who have gotten other cancers such as breast cancer and they dont smoke

It can contribute.

ABSOLUTLEY! My grandfather smoked since he was 13 years old. He then developed 4 clogged arteries and stage 4 Lung cancer. He died about a year later. This was NO Coincedence. Never try it!
