Does being treated for hyperthyroidism make you gain weight?!

Question: hyper thyroid means your metabolisim is too fast, so being treated for it could mean that if you are overeating and getting away with it before, you will put on weight after unless you change your eating habits. the other time people do gain weight is if they have to have their thyroid surgically removed and it takes up to 6 weeks for the thyrogen you take to replace it, is fully absorbed into your system. most people in that case seem to out on 10 or 15 pounds. I put on 10 and it came off again once I was on the right medication with a little self control diet wise.

The thyroid is difficult to treat and weight could fluctuate either way or not at all. Each person is different.

It is my opinion that if a person gains weight after being treated for hyperthyroidism it is because of poor diet or lack of exercise, not because of the thyroid treatment.

No. On the other hand if you have hypothyroidism and do not take adequate dose of Thyroid hormon, you can gain weight.
The best test to know whether you take adequate dose of Thyroid hormon replacement is to check your TSH (Thyroid-
stimulating hormon).
