Acne help!?!

Question: I'm a 19 year old male. I have dealt with acne for two years now. Over the past year it has become severe. I was put on Accutane. I'm doing okay as far as side effects, but it seems to be taking a while to work. I'm working on my 2nd month, and the amount of pimples I get are lower. However, I seem to have spots that remain on my face after the pimple is gone. Is this normal? I feel like my face will never get better.

I understand your frustration. I applaud your persistence and determination. Give the Accutane time. Depending on your dosage of accutane, it takes awhile for the vitamin a to build up in your system. People are typically on Accutane for no more than 6 months, because Accutane can affect the liver. It is towards the end of your 6 months when your acne should start to diminish almost completely. Some individuals see an even greater result after their 6 months, and that is because there is a high level of the vitamin a in your body. Your face will get better. Accutane has put so many individuals acne into remission, including my older sister. Don't give up. To me, you sound like you are on the right track. While on Accutane, you acne gets worse before it gets better, and you already said your pimples are diminishing. The spots are common; my sister had spots. These will heal.
Good luck and Take Care
P.S. Keep your body and your lips hydrated, since Accutane dries out all mucus membranes.

I am a freshman in high school and have a similar problem. I used Proactiv for a while but my face never got better. I went to a doctor and got prescribed something else. I still had marks on my face after my pimples went away. Some went away quickly while others took time to clear up. I have one that can only be removed with surgery.

Yes, as acne dissapears, it may tend to leave some spots. For these spots, another treatment would be required. I would say something natural; honey. Honey does get rid of the spots/marks. Apply honey on the scars and cover with a band-aid over night.

oo now ur getting rid of acne which is a relief, just u have acne scars all u have to do is get rid of the scar by getting a chemical peel or a laser surgery.

The only thing that worked for me was to take a shower in the morning And at night. Clean your face with a soap made for acne. Drug stores also sell a lotion to use after surgery that reduces scaring which would really work on small acne pits. Don't eat chocolate and avoid greasy food. Eat more fresh vegetables. If you really want to end it for good, go to a doctor who will give you really strong prescription medicine.

Yes its normal, they are known as red marks or hyperpigmentation but they should fade away by the end of your treatment. You should slather on lots of sunblock while going out because accutane makes the skin sensitive to sunlinght and sunlight can darken these spots.

Accutane is the medication that goes closest to curing acne and is the best drug in the market for acne. It is use for the treatment of severe acne and has a 60% cure rate. For those with milder forms of acne, the cure rate is higher.

It is effective because it stops the oil glands in the body from working so prevents bacteria growth.

The milder your acne, the more likely you will be cured. If your acne type is severe, the possibility of it coming back is higher and you need to go on another course. However bear in mind that after every course, acne comes back milder.

Besides the normal dry skin/ hair, pains and aches. Intitial breakout of acne is also possible. Some people have complaint that during the first few weeks on the drug, they experience horrible breakouts. This is because, roaccutane exfoliates the skin at accelerated rate, pushing all dormant acne underneath your skin to the surface, its a way of clearing pores. These dormant acne normally come out slowly in months but with roaccutane, you could be having months worth of acne in 3-4 weeks.

Other common side effects include fatigue, lack of concentration and redness as in like blushing.

First of all, no one has flawless skin. Some people have it better than others, but thats just genes and stuff. Go to www.freewebs .com/reelbeauty11 for skin and beauty tips. I know its for young girls, but it works for anyone!

I know some people who have tried ProActive and it worked, but I also know some others who have tried it and it made it worse :( I know some who have put rubbing alchol on their skin or peroxcide to dry up the pimples. It also kills bacteria :) . Also, try going to a dermotoligist, or ask your regular doctor. Often times the regular doctor, who knows more about your med. history and whatnot can help you more than a dermatologist.

are you a vegetarian? That might have something to do with it. Its worth checking into.

Try dabbing toothpaste or honey on your zits before you go to bed - works wonders.

Overall, remember that beauty counts more on the inside than on the outside, and your true friends will love you for you, and not your skin.

Oh, and try a different kind of foundation, if you wear it. Try to use a kind with lots of water in it. It looks great and doesn't clog pores half as bad. And check your habits - do you prop your chin up a lot with your hands? That might cause the acne as well. Look for the cause, as well as the cure.
