Can you over use prescription "rescue" inhalers such as albuterol?!

Question: I know you probably could, but what is the limit? AND what is the right amount?

See, I was given an Albuterol Inhaler from my doc, but I don't have asthma attacks. I just wheeze sometimes and get a little short of breath. It's gradually increasing, so I'm wondering if there is such thing as using the inhaler too much ????? (yes, I'm a smoker AND That's irrelevent to this question, therefore I'm warning you now, if you mention anything about smoking, I will report it as abuse.)

Is there such thing as using a rescue inhaler too much? What's the limit? (and yes, they give me a time span to use so many puffs within, but that doesn't mean **** to me, because I can't spend my day calculating how many times I use my inhaler)

I also use an inhaler, not for asthma but for same symptons you have. I found that if I over use it I would get the shakes and/or a rapid heartbeat. I smoke to so I dare say you cop the same lectures from DR and friends as I do. I gave up smoking for 7 months but still had the same symptoms just not as bad so figured what the heck and went back to smoking. Try not to rely on always using inhaler too much like many meds the body can become too reliant upon them. Instead of always using your inhaler when you start to feel out of breath if possible just relax and take in slow deep breaths breathing in slowly through your nose; hold for awhile then slowly exhale through your mouth. When exhaling feel your body relaxing all your muscles/ feel tension relief in shoulders etc. I am in no way saying that you should not use inhaler just giving you an alternative method to try instead of always relying on your inhaler.

Yes in some cases not that I ever had but my grandson sure did, left him shaking allover, he was 14 at the time
OK I must not say "that word" I just wish I was doing that as well to but alas it got to me,so I will die quicker than expected
Mind you I'm doing OK as it is now.
Now back to you question I use my puffer up to 5 times a Day now, it used to be 4, you will know if you over dose as you will start shaking.
I have been using Ventolin for many years due to Asthma which was bought on by hay fever then car fumes, so it was more allergy related in the beginning.................... Like 20 years ago

The national guidelines for diagnosis and management of asthma says if you use a rescue inhaler more then 2 times per week, your asthma is NOT in control and you will need an additional medication.

Controller medications are used to prevent wheezing and asthma attacks. You take them every day (some once, some twice). This should bring down the number of puffs you need off your inhaler.

Using your inhaler too much puts strain on your heart.
