Scar tissue on the brain?!

Question: A couple of years ago, my brother was having problems and they thought it was something to do with his inner ear. Lately he has been getting numb and having facial twitches. He even gets a slight case of paralysis on his face. He went for a brain scan and they sid that scar tissue showed up. What can cause scar tissue? He is currently 36 years old. Next week he is scheduled to go for more tests that he has to sit for 2 1/2 hours for. What test is this? If there is some sort of abnormality such as a tumor or something, wouldn' t they have caught it on the initial scan? Is this something to worry about? Any help would be appreciated. He is my only brother and I love him and I worry about him...

Make sure he gets another opinion. The symptoms you describe sound very much like acoustic neuroma, which is a typically benign tumor on the acoustic nerve in the inner ear. The acoustic nerve rests near the facial nerve. When the tumor grows it can touch the facial nerve causing drooping and paralysis. Hope it's nothing more serious. Good luck.
