Would a thyroid blood test show hormonal problems?!

Question: I had a blood test done to test the functioning of my thyroid. Everything was normal on that, would that show hormone irregularities as well? Or would I need to get specific test?

The thyroid hormone is one of many body hormones. Examples of female hormones include estrogen, progesterone, follicle stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone and prolactin. There are also adrenal and pituitary hormones to mention a few. Each hormone has to be checked and ordered individually.

uh, thyroid is a hormone. duh

Depends on what hormone you're trying to investigate. Thyroid function test essentially checks the levels of hormones released by your thyroid gland, as well as the hormones which affect your thyroid gland. So basically, you're looking at T3, T4 and TSH. They do not check any of the many other hormones in your body.

No, those are separate tests. I have to get my thyroid checked annually, and my hormones checked every couple months or so. Since hormones fluctuate through the month, you'll get a different reading every week or so.

Yes, a thyroid test would show irregularities with your thyroid hormones, if the right test was run. TSH is NOT a thyroid hormone however. It is a pituitary hormone. TSH is only an indirect, second hand way to GUESS at the levels of your thyroid hormones.
