I don't know what you mean by "quick"... AIDS has been around for decades. But as to why it's so widespread:

- Humans currently have no mechanism to develop immunity to HIV
- It is easily transmitted (and not just through sexual contact... drug users who shared needles were among the fastest transmitters of the virus)
- People may harbor and transmit the virus for years before developing any symptoms

We just don't have enough tools to fight AIDS yet. That's all. I wouldn't chalk it up to promiscuity.

Some people are not as well informed of this disease.

The disease is transmitted through: Semen, precum, vaginal fluids, blood, and even breast milk.

Most people will get it through sex but there are also drug addicts who share needles that aren't properly cleansed.

& yes, you'd be surprised at how promiscuous people are. I have a handful of 16-17 year old friends who have unprotected sex with multiple partners. Imagine what the 18+ age group does.

I'm sure it wasn't intentional. I would compare it to Cigarette smokers. It became popular to smoke in the 50's when they were uniformed on what they were doing to their bodies right? Sex has always been popular, but once we got past all that racist b.s. and there were interracial sex acts if you will, aids spread fast, and people were again unaware of what they were doing to their bodies, since it's hard to tell if you have HIV/AIDS for a good 2 years...people were unaware.
