Are homeless shelters sanitary, or do they spread disease?!

Question: I have seen on TV that wrestlers in High School use the same mat and they can infect each other wish skin infections.

We have health code that requires hotels and motels to be clean and have freshly washed lines in the beds every night.

Are there such regulation in homeless shelters and are these regulations enforced to keep people healthy?

This could be just one small part of reducing health-care costs in our country.

I like the idea that "an dollar of prevention is worth a thousand dollars of cure."

Many homeless shelters use special mattresses that are sprayed with an anti-bacterial solution when the person using the bed leaves. The biggest infectious problem is the showers and the usage of towels. The laundry is done at a very high tempurature and a dryer used the kill any bacteria etc in towels.
Not going barefoot or in open sandals in the shower area will help considerably. Homeless people have many foot problems like athletes foot (from sweating in footwear and not being able to change socks).

Other things like airborne viruses etc are just as prevalent (or not) as any other place with group of people together.

If you volunteer at a homeless shelter you will find out for yourself ...
Or is that not in your character ?
