Unfortunately, this illness is caused by a virus that stays dormant in your body forever and can cause symptoms for quite a long time. The CDC says: "It is important to note that symptoms related to infectious mononucleosis caused by EBV infection seldom last for more than 4 months". Because it is a virus, there is no antibiotic to treat it. The disease has to run it it's natural course and the best thing you can do is rest. Your doctor may be able to recommend or prescribe medicines to control the symptoms somewhat during this time. You can find more information about the illness in the links below.

Sorry for the bad news, hope you feel better soon.

Lori, RN, BSN

can take anywhere from a week to 6 months. I had it for about 3 months.

You need to take leave from work for at least a couple weeks. Your doctor will give you a notice. I had Mono (23, healthy...) and it knocked me on my rear. if you dont rest, it will get worse. Rest is the only cure. Also, physical activity can be detrimental to your health - rupture your spleen and kill you. BOOOOO mono.

I had mono once and it took me 6-8 months to fell better but I had a bad case of it. Hope you feel better soon.

couple of weeks/

Sorry to hear that you have mono! PLEASE take it easy! I had mono when I was 19 (am 26) and I did not take any time off from work, and have had a horrible immune system since then, I relapsed a few times, and it triggered allergies to stuff I was never allergic to before. My friend used me as a guide of 'what not to do when you have mono' when she got it, and she was fine in three weeks. Feel better!

Takes a few weeks, and dont do anything strenuous you need to watch your stomache thats what the doc told me back then....

Take leave from work, because you will be out for awhile. Hopefull you're boss will understand (You have Mono, for peats sake) and you just rest, eat soup and watch t.v for the next month to 3 months.

My dad had it, it took him four months to recover, and he lost 19 pounds. Its different with everyone. But the one thing is, be careful how much activity you do, you're body is working hard enough to heal itself, the last thing you would want to do is try going on a run, or going to work. I know its the instinct to tough it out, but stay in bed, with the window open to get fresh air. Do what the doctor says, it gets better gradually.
