1. I am glad you have not been able to take paracetamol - Lemsip already contains paracetamol and you should NEVER take both together.

2. Pop to you chemists and ask for some Ibuprofen liquid - Take 20ml Three times a day - This will ease your pain and help control your temperature (You can take this with the Lemsip)

3. Treat yourself to some ice cream - The cooling sensation will ease some of your pain (Plus the fact tha your eating Ice cream should cheer you up a little).

4. Stock up on some nice soups - They are nutritious and will not irritate your tonsills any further.

5. Finally, have some rest and ensure you are drinking lost of fluids.

6. If the problem doesnt ease in a day or so - request an urgent appointment (Emergency) at your Doctors if thats unavailable ask to see the Nurse - You may need Penicillin 250 or 500mg Four times a day.

Do not go to your hospital - Acccident and Emergency should be left for Accident and Emergencies only

I advise you to go to your A&E at your local hospital. It sounds like you have tonsillitus, although you could have another type of fever, such as glandular fever. I had similar symptoms to you a few years ago, and the doctor just gave me antibiotics (the liquid form).

My fever lasted for over a week, and paracetamol didn't reduce it. Please see a doctor at your hospital as soon as possible before it gets a lot worse... can you not get an emergency appointment at your doctor surgery?

get some soup into you or a smoothie, you need the energy to help your body get over it.

If you are pretty young and healthy it will only go on for 5-7 days, if any longer consult your doc.

Get well soon,

Sounds exactly like when i had tonsillitis. I the only thing ate for like 5 days was a couple of smoothies and even that was painful.

When i saw the doctor he said there wasnt really much i could do and that i just had to ride it out. I told him that i wanted him to take them out but he said that you need to have tonsillitis 3 times (or it has to be really severe) before they let you.

Although i was talking to someone who had hers out and she said most people have complications and spit out blood for ages.

Hi ,
When my daughter had strep throat the hospital told her to instead of spraying the throat spray you buy in the store just to pour it into something and then put some in mouth and hold it for a min(as if trying to gargle) then spit it out when finished I also gave her motrin and it helped her alot. she did this every 4 to 6 hours and it worked but please do check with your Dr. first before trying anything some people also suggest honey. Good luck and hope you feel better

Go to the site below; select MERCK MANUAL; enter "tonsils" at the search engine (on the left)...or try "tonsillitis" if dissatisfied with selection choice.

the way you describe your condition really makes me think that there is a big possibiity that you are having acute tonsillopharyngitis. you should take erythromicin 500mg 2x a day for seven days. you have to complete the antibiotic course for 1 week and dont discontinue medications even if symptoms abates. this will cause resistance to this type of antibiotic once you face this infection again. you can also gargle with orofar-L, it is an oral gargle with lidocaine, anesthetic that would a bit help relieve the pain. another thing is, you have to take erythromycin with a full stomach. eat first before taking the medicine, for it can cause epigastric pain when taken without meal
i hope this will help..

I found that if you take a glass of whiskey (it stings the crap out of them) but after a couple of hours they begin to calm down. I get tonsillitis three times a year and i currently waiting to get them out. Just what I observed after years of torture also Augmentin an antibiotic is very good but takes on average two and a half days to work
