Should you give mouth-to-mouth to a total stranger if you had to?!

Question: If so what kind of diseases could you catch from them as a result

Answers: If so what kind of diseases could you catch from them as a result

I worry about this a bit and that is why nurses and first aid people carry a mouth guard, but I remember all the girls I kissed whe I was younger. Total stangers on a dance floor or at parties. When you are a teenager you kiss anything that wears a skirt and moves, at least I did.
I never worried about germs.
You can catch colds and hepatitis giving mouth to mouth to strangers, but if it saves a life it is something you have to do in my opinion.
I gave mouth to mouth to the neighbour's dog when it strangled itself. It didn't survive, but it was worth a try.
The owner wouldn't do it, so I did.

You don't have to give mouth to mouth anymore. It has the risk of transferring infections.

edit: Okay, so I get thumb's down for being current with the new CPR rules... whatever...

STDs, or colds/flu, etc. But it would be worth it to save a life. If you are thinking about AIDS, I think that is mainly transferred through the blood.

uh yeahh!!!! if you ever find yourself in that situation you definitely should if you know cpr. it could save someones life, wouldnt you want someone to do the same for you? and as for diseases i dont think there is anything major to worry about, you might catch a cold but nothing life threatening

I would, because I'm a nurse, I would hope someone would do it for me and my family.I carry a mouth-guard on my key chain ,but I would do it without it if, it needed to be done.
You can get mono, flu,a cold or even strep from saliva (spit)
Only if someone is bleeding and you have a cut or open sore ;there might be a chance of HIV or Hepatitis.I know nurses who have rescued children from swimming pools, because the life guards were to busy flirting to do their jobs.mouth to mouth was given. I once went to pick my kids up from a licensed day care, and noticed a child choking.the daycare worker was sitting on her butt watching TV.I grabbed the kid up and did the Heimlich maneuver, several times before she coughed up a toy,I had to give the kid mouth to mouth because she had been without air flow for too long;all the while I was helping this kid,the daycare worker was yelling at me to let her go and put her down.If I hadn't been there and been willing to give mouth to mouth ,that kid would be dead.
I took my kids out of that daycare immediately and reported them to the state. I've also given mouth to mouth to strangers,I've been a nurse for 30 years and have never caught anything!

this is personal choice. carry a mask with a one-way valve on your keychain to ease your fears.

The new type of cpr does away with the mouth to mouth part. Instead it is recommended that the chest be pushed 100 times a minute. This keeps the blood flowing and is necessary if the patient is going to get better
