I am worried I may have a hernia. Left hand side of my groin. What are the sympt!

Question: I am clear (ish) on what a hernia is as a friend is suffering from one but there is a distinct raised and soft spot that is very tender. I have only JUST discovered this whilst I was in the shower and it has scared the poop outta me. It is my time of the month when everything gets tender, boobs swell, all that but I have never come across anything like this. Serious answers only please. Anyone finds this amusing, well, that makes them pretty sick in the head really. So DO NOT take the mickey. I am genuinly concerned about this. Thanks and have a great day :0)

I was in the shower when I discovered a swelling in my groin and, as i had recently had extreme but temporary pain in the area I went to my GP who diagnosed an iguinal hernia. (I think that's how you spell it!) There are several other versions of hernia but that is the one in the groin and it is caused by a tear in your lower abdomen which allows the organs inside to pop through, especially when you are sitting down and the tear opens. When you stand, the internal organs are "trapped" as the tear closes causing extreme pain until they pop back in again. As luck would have it I actually had a hernia on both sides. I had them repaired separately in operations that took about 40 minutes each. I went back to work about 3 weeks later. The operation consists of stitching the tear together and strengthening the area with a type of medical gauze to give extra strength. I was told that this type of hernia is usually found in men.

i think your best bet is to go see your dr

you will be ok i had one on ny hand for a whil it went after a bit if ur really worried go se ur doc

See a Dr. but you can use WebMD.com. It has a symptom checker. You tell it your symptoms and it can give you somethings that might be close, but the Dr. should have the final word.

i had one surgery was required it feels normally like a golf ball size hanging through your bladder which is torn if you wait on the nhs , 6 months maybe, all depends on spongers jumping the queue

A hernia in the groin is going to have constant pain that can range from a dull ache to severe pain if tissues underneath the hernia are bulging out. The pain can increase with physical activity or when you are in certain positions. A hernia might not cause much pain if nothing is bulging through the tear. The way to determine if something is a hernia is mostly by feel.

Mostly likely, you found a swollen lymph node - they are concentrated in the groin area, and it common for lymph nodes to swell on occasion. It is common for men to have hernias in the groin because men have an opening in the muscles where the ureter passes through, but women do not have this opening; consequently, it unusual for women to develop hernias in the groin unless they have a congenital defect or perform a lot of heavy lifting.
