Diet soda and diabetes?!

Question: Does anyone's doctor want them to NOT drink diet soda if they have either Type I or Type II diabetes-whether insulin dependent or not.

Answers: Does anyone's doctor want them to NOT drink diet soda if they have either Type I or Type II diabetes-whether insulin dependent or not.

Diet soda does not interfere with blood glucose levels of any body, diabetic Type I nor II, nor with non diabetics, because the sweeteners are not precursors of sugar/glucose. From this scientific knowledge, diet coke is OK to drink if any one suffers from Diabetes Mellitus II or Insulin dependent diabetes.

I am not diabetic, of any sort.

but i highley recomend NOT to drink anykind of caffine in general, its #1 problem for diabetes.....

goodluck!

My son was told he could have all the diet pop he wants. He's Type 1.

I once had a Hypoglycemic issue. I was told to switch, by an Osteopath, and go easy on the stuff. Since then (1982) science has proved that all the other stuff in soda is not good for anybody.

I suggest ice tea with the sugar replacement you prefer.

This is only a guess but I would bet $100 that most Doctors would not recommend ANY type of soda pop.

my doctor has told me tha it is OK for me to have diet soda. in fact when I was in the hospital after my second son was born that was one of the free items they gave me(it was Sprite zero) I am type II diabetic.

They say you can drink diet soda all you want unless you are restricting your salt intake.

One thing you might want to avoid in th diet soda is aspartame, which is marketed under Equal and NutraSweet. It is a bad health risk, and I have had severe problems related to drinking this substance. I never believed anything I read about aspartame until I had symptoms, then when I quit drinking the diet soda with aspartame, those symptoms went away.

There is even a warning in red on all products that contain aspartame, it says warning contains phenylalanine (on the side of a can of diet soda). Health food stores do not carry diet soda with aspartame in it because of this. Two types of diet soda I find safe to drink are Diet RC and Diet Rite. Also, if you have high blood pressure, Diet Rite does not contain sodium, nor does it contain caffeine.

You can read about it on the FDA site and many other sites as well if your interested.
