How long to recover from a sinus infection?!

Question: I went to the doctor on Friday and she diagnosed me with a serious sinus infection and a touch of broncitis. She gave me a pack of pills and cough syrup... The cough isn't as bad but my throat is still sore, my ears feel like they are stuffed with cotton, and my head feels swollen. It's been four days! When should I start feeling better?

Sinus infections are a pain; I've had more of them than I can count. They take up to a week to REALLY heal; with brochitis thrown into the mix, I'd say you'll probably be better by NEXT Monday. Until then, REST. Drink plenty of fluid to keep the nasal and bronchial secretions thin. Take the cough syrup; coughing takes a LOT of energy, and you need that to get better. You can take Sudafed or its generic to help keep your nose unblocked (be sure the cough medication DOESN'T have it first - the generic term is pseudoephedrine HCL); it will also help your ears. Take aspirin or Tylenol if you have fever.

Lots of rest and lots of fluid are REALLY important. Hope you feel better soon.

The sinuses are not made to easily drain and some people have more of a problem than others. You might try adding a decongestant to your medications to help. It can take 2 or 3 weeks to get over them. Especially since you said yours was diagnosed as a "serious" one. Hang in there.

It sounds like someone needs to stop smoking. If you don't, you will never get better. I had the same exact thing happen to me. Identical symptoms. It was two years ago and I never fully recovered. The sinus infection turned into permanent allergy problems.
Bronchitis, by the way, can take up to four weeks to go away.
Take some Vitamin C.
Good luck.

if it is a really bad sinus infection you may need another round of antibiotics, that happened to me last year. It didn't clear up after the first round so I had to do another 14 days. hope you feel better

I had a sinus infection in November that never went away, it's now February and I still have, been on three different antibiotics and now I've got bronchitis.

A decongestant should help you out with the stuffy feeling in your ears.

Did your doc give you a z-pak? Personally they don't work on me and I have yet to meet anyone that they work on, so if he gave you that you might ask for another antibiotic like bactrum.

Long
