How do you prevent diabetes?!

Question: how do you prevent it?
risk factors?

Answers: how do you prevent it?
risk factors?

Unfortunately, there's no way to prevent - - or induce - - the onset of type 1. Type 1 diabetics become such due to

a.) genetics (very direct - parent/child, sibling/sibling)
b.) an indeterminate virus causes the body to erroneously identify the insulin making cells (islet cells) as enemy or foreign cells, and destroys them (kind of the way they do when you have a cold... it's why your cold goes away).
c.) same as "b" but it's not preceded by a virus, rather it's a fluke. Scientists do not know why the body identifies these cells as foreign, and to pinpoint this will help to close in on a cure.

If you are predisposed to type 2, you CAN speed up its diagnosis by eating crap and lack of exercise. Contrarywise, you can slow down its onset by eating right and taking care of your health. So sweets plays a part in type 2 onset, but will never cause the disease. Type 2 is primarily genetic, so if there is type 2 diabetes in your family, you should be careful how much junk you eat, you may be predisposed. Eating right is never a bad idea! Type is not as direct as type 1 in its target, and cousins, nephews and grandchildren are all within its reach.

Risk factors for type 2 include obesity, lack of exercise, poor diet, and genetics.

1. have the right parents...some races have a higher than usual risk of type 2 diabetes
2. keep your weight down
3. exercise regularly...30 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise every 2 days, brisk walk as a minimum
4. restrict the intake of refined carbohydrates including flour products - lots of fruit and vegetables, uncooked or lightly steamed

obesity is a risk factor. but you should watch how much starch and carbohydrates you eat as they break down into sugar(ie) breads, pastas, chips, potatos, etc.

Risk factor for Diabetes is genetic. Most people get what we call type 2 diabetes or adult onset. This is usually because of a genetic disposition and significant weight gain.
If diabetes runs in your family and you are 50% or more over your ideal body weight chances are that a person will develop type 2 diabetes or non insulin dependent diabetes. It is treated with oral medication and diet. If some one is at risk of developung diabetes they may be able to ward it off by exercising and maintaining an ideal body weight.

A lot of the time it's hereditary, so I don't know if you can prevent it. But you can postpone it. You need to eat healthy and exercise regulary.

eat right have the right parents eating unhealthy and not exercising and being born with it

Keep a healthy weight, exercise regularly, no binging on junk food as this taxes the pancreas, no drinking. I got diabetes after I had pancreatitis from a drinking problem I had. Though I know some very healthy people, mostly children, that do all of the above and still got diabetes because it runs in their family.
