I honestly believe there is a cure for everything out there but if the world is sickness free how will all the healthcare operations still make billions and billions of dollars.
I beleive they have the cure but you need to be a millionaire in order to get your hands on it. Look at Magic Johnson, he's about 50 something years old and you would never be able to tell he even had it. Look at all these rap stars.. they have sex every night with groupies and they are just fine. Cuz they know they can just go home and take their medicine and be fine.
Eventually, there will be, but by then, a new disease will have come along that they'll be trying to cure. Unforunately, there's always going to be something to battle.
There isn't a cure for AIDs because once HIV turns into Full Blown AIDS your immune system will be useless. There is however, treatment for HIV positive patients that slows the progression of the virus so they don't develop AIDS. People who are on the treatment can go on to live pretty normal lives but the medication is not accessible to everyone.
Yes you are being pessimistic and overly simplistic. There's a shitload of money to be made by the pharmaceutical company and/or scientist that develops a cure for both of those viruses.
It costs billions of dollars to come up with a cure and can take years of research. It's not as easy as just deciding 'let's find a cure for AIDS' and it just happening in a couple of months. Many drugs get knocked out in their clinical trials because of some problem or they fail efficacy tests. The pharmaceutical industry is not as simple as people think, there are a lot of failures to be had before the breakthrough occurs unfortunately.

AT this point in time there is not a cure for either, and there may never be. They (Universities and Scientists) are working on vaccines so you can't catch herpes or HIV, but they haven't found either yet.
In the case of HIV, the virus mutates with in the body and the medications become less effective. There are so many different strains of HIV that they haven't been able to find something that will help the body reject the cells that infect a person.
There are many trials going on around the world to find a vacine, but nothing has worked yet.
