Fever and a blood test?!

Question: My 5 year old has been battling a nasty flu like bug(but its not flu) for over a week now. His doc expected him to be much better by now but he keeps getting high fevers and he still has a soar throat. Hes doesn't have an appetite. Doc said that if he wasn't better by today to bring him back in on tuesday(tomorrow) because she wanted to run a blood test. I'm not sure what this would be checking. Hes already tested negative for flu and strep. Does anyone know what the doc might be looking for? I'm starting to get worried. My son has always been pretty healthy.

Probably a CBC to check for infection and possibly a chemisty panel as a general system check to cover all the bases.

He will probably look for white cells and signs of general infection, letting him know whether it is viral or bacterial.

Possibly rhino sinusitis.... this means that the nose and sinus are inflamed, thus producing abundant mucus and the fever. The sore throat is because he can't breath trough his nose, so he has to take air trough the mouth and that irritates the throat. Try giving him some Benadryl and or Zyrtec ( this because it has an allergic component) and in a couple of days he'll be running circles. Also you can use normal saline to clean his nose and helping clear it better.

write your questions down and have them answered by the doctor BEFORE you allow your child to undergo further procedures.
