Answers: If so what is it like?
I am on an 1800 calorie diet

As a matter of fact, yes. Diabetes runs in my family and I have decided to take better care of myself rather develop this disease. Acutally, I am simply avoiding sugars, fried foods and red meat. I eat lots of veggies, fruits, chicken or fish. I am just cutting out all the junk food and enjoying the others! Nothing radical, but a good start.

Gina's on the pump, and she's type 1, both of which allow her a little more freedom with food choices. Still, I keep her limited for the same reason anyone else would: Pig out you get fat. Plus insulin makes it especially difficult to shed extra pounds.

I don't cap her at a certain calorie or carb limit, but I do make sensible meal plans for all my kids.

I'm following the book "You Are What You Eat" by Gillian McKeith. It's an outstanding book and teaches you that not only does food affect your health, but it affects your mood, motivation, cravings and sex drive too!

I follow more or less the South Beach Living food plan phase 2. By more or less, it allows some foods that cause my glucose to skyrocket. Somewhere around 100 grams of carbohydrate per day!! Cals can take care of themselves!

I check my glucose level and eat a food, then check again 90 minutes after the first test. This testing happens every time I change any of the meds I am taking. Different blood pressure med made some foods react differently. Now doing it again with COPD inhaler! It definitely causes some different reactions.

The ironies of life in a nutshell!! Healthy as a horse for most of my life, didn't even take aspirin for headaches!! Now I am on a whole pharmacy of junk chemicals just to stay moving in the direction I want to go!!!

I dont really follow a diet. I eat whatever I want and just watch my carbs. If you call watching carbs a diet then call it that...lol. I try and eat less than 8 carbs every meal. (usually it's around 5 or 6 a meal)

We type one's really are lucky(in THIS instance), we just watch our carbs and take our insulin to make up for what we eat....that is, not limit our carbs, just make up for them with insulin! We get to eat as healthy or unhealthy as we like and we can still keep our sugars under control, but like anyone, we should eat very healthy whenEVER possible.

You're asking a lot of questions today! Just got out of the hospital? I follow kind of a Weight Watchers type of diet. I keep my carbs between 150 and 200g per day, about 1400-1800 calories a day, I avoid fatty stuff because it screws up my BG's, I barely ever drink alcohol, I don't drink sugared drinks. That's about it. I eat everything, just in moderation. But I'm on a pump, so I just make adjustments as necessary, it's not like I eat the same thing every day.
