I'm type one so I have no choice but to take insulin. I am on Humalog fast acting, take 1 unit for every 15 carbs. Also on Lantus, which I love which makes life soooo much easier! I test about three times a day, at random times.

i take speed

just pot for me

I'm not on insulin yet, thank goodness, and hopefully never will.
I take pills, Glimepuride.

I take insulin via an insulin pump. There is no other option for me. I'm a type 1 and pills will not work. It's either insulin or die.

No offense was meant. I was saying that I don't have a choice in the matter. I wish I did. Maybe someday.

I test 4-8 times a day. That is pretty much par for the course when it comes to using a pump.

That's actually a somewhat odd regimen, to take 4 shots of a rapid acting insulin (the humalog) and NPH twice a day (that's your Novolin N). Why not take lantus once daily and one dose of insulin with each meal, most diabetics can get very good control that way and it's fewer injections daily....

I am on both Lantus and Metformin. Lantus injection at 6 am, metformin ER with breakfast and at night.

You will get back to the oral meds after pregnancy I think.

The Lantus has made a huge difference in how well I can control the glucose levels. Doctor and I are discussing whether to add humalog to my regime or not. We tried it already early mornings to see if we could control the Dawn Phenomen, but that only made me crash before I could get breakfast on the table. I do know that I can't quit the metformin as I am very insulin resistant.

I take a shot of Novolog (fast acting) insulin before every meal. I also take 15 units of Lantus (long acting) at night

If it's working for you, then go with it. But I've been on a pump for the last 5 years, and it's wonderful! So much more flexibility. I've been on insulin since my dx in 1984, started with Regular and Lente, then Regular/Ultralente, then Humalog/Lantus, and now the pump. Things just keep getting better, so I encourage you to explore if the new technology (or even new pills) could help you even more.
