What(if anything) do you do differently......?!

Question: if you are going to be away from home all day??

Answers: if you are going to be away from home all day??

I'm on a pump, so if I travel outside the immediate area I make sure I have a couple of syringes, a bottle of Novolog (and a bottle of Lantus if I'm going overnight), and extra snack bags of Skittles for lows. I've been careless or ignorant sometimes, so I've learned over the years what to bring along.

We always bring our glucose meter, both insulin pens, our scale, our carb info book, water, snacks, and juice to treat a low. We pay attention to how our dd is acting and test appropriately along with before each meal.

To manage your diabetic condition, discipline is the by -word. Follow your routine each day by planning ahead to follow the discipline your condition requires.

Once in a great while you will fail. OK, just don't double up at any time to catch up. Remember the goal to avoid peaks and valleys in your glucose levels.

Best Wishes.

I pack a snack bag whenever we're going to be out for more than an hour (or if less than an hour but it's especially humid out). In it we have fast acting snacks (juice, fruit roll-up); more substantial snacks w/ protein; "free" (ie., carb-free) snacks and her glucagon. I also take a tube of frosting with us whenever we go out. It's smaller, lighter and more portable than a coke, and can fit in my pocketbook and stay at room temperature.

Gina's on the pump, so a day trip requires less "stuff" than the old days. Nonetheless, if we're going to be FAR away, I pack 3-4 needles and a vial of insulin "just in case".

any time I walk out the door toward the truck may be more time than I want to spend away from the house.

I grab my snack bag, my meds bag, and my ice packs.

I always have a handy instant food source in the truck. My hubby isn't good at stopping to feed me when I need it most. And anything can happen to prevent us from returning when we think we are going to be back.

It is the 2 days to a week that we are gone that really mess with my schedules.

I'm on the road all day long, so I always drive with a packet of Mom's health rusks in the car. Lunch is not always possible and these rusks have saved me many times from dipping into a low.

I take my meter, insulin, and a bottle of regular pop incase I go low. I also have money with me all the time incase I have to buy something to treat a low. (whenever I go somewhere I always seem to be within 5 minutes of food)

I check my pump to make sure there's plenty of insulin my reservoir to get me through the day, then I grab my purse (meter and glucose tablets always in there) and go.
