Don't scrub it you only make it worse..rub Vaseline on the area.at night .leave to soak in ..do this for a few days..it will lift the dead skin..and prevent any further hard skin developing..when you see the pink skin again keep a light application of Vaseline on the area for a while ..

Try using a salt rub by dead sea salt. Then apply a thin layer of Vaseline.

Try some Burts Bees Hand Salve (www.myburtsbees.co.uk), works a treat on any hard skin!

try and use some spacial hand cream i use it some times

he needs to use lotion on his elbows daily, maybe several times a day.

NO NO NO

everything you have said you have done will dry out the skin and it sounds as if his skin is really dry

you need to buy an exfoliater such as St Ives and GENTLE exfoliate the skin

then use a rich moisturiser such as E45 and make sure you apply it on a regular basis i.e twice a day

First of all make sure he isn`t leaning on his elbows all the time.
Soak them in Epsom salts a few times a week.
Also peel a banana and rub the inside of the skin onto the elbows. There is a compound in the banana skin that softens the skin.
To take the colour off, cut a lemon in half an add some sugar then rub them into the elbows for a few mins and rinse with warm water, pat dry and add a moisturiser..
This will need to be done regularly over a month or so.
There are a few other things that you can try if these don`t work well enough for you. Let me know

go to the dermatologist and ask for a peeling solution, it wont take effect immediately but it will in a few days or a week.. i had the same problem with my knees a year ago. it works. the peeling wont look pretty but the after effect is worth it.. and i recommend anything with shea butter to make it soft. i swear on shea butter! its PERFECT...

Yikes... bleach?! Its a wonder he has elbows left!! I have a similar problem with my knees and use vaseline loosely wrapped in clingfilm round my knees. This softens it initially, then use a good quality moisturiser (cocoa butter or similar) two or three times a day. Another way to avoid it is to try to keep his elbows off the table/desk/similar hard surfaces.

Good luck

Have you tried Bag Balm?
You can find it in the pharmacy section at most stores like walmart, CVS and Walgreen's.
My dad had very dry hands and elbows while working the farm.
He used this on the milking cows udders in the winter and noticed improvement in his hands.
So from then on has been putting in on his hands and elbows and suffers no more.

**(It doesn't have the greatest smell and a little goes a long way . If you rather you can put it on before bed and put a long sleeve t-shirt on. )**

Bag Balm... okay I don't have the real history, but I do have an oral history. This product was developed for Cow milk bags. There is another product called Udder Cream, which was developed for the Cow's udders.

'nuff said? Okay... I was told about this product many years ago. At one time you could only purchase it in obscure places.... like fabric stores etc...

I was a brick layer. My hands and just about every other body part that was privy to lime... Dried out like crazy.

My buddy told me about these products (his wife told him)... I got some. Man.... total moisterizer. Better than Corn Huskers and that's pretty good!

So I get Bag balm.... great. I get a massage every now and then, I tell the massage lady to use the bag balm... incredible stuff! ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE.

If you haven't tried it... do! It is the BEST.... BAR NONE.

Take it from a reformed bricklayer/cement finisher.... IT REALLY WORKS!!!

Backpacker's friend

I've been using Bag Balm for a year or so on my lips and hands. But recently, I had occasion to use it on my feet during a long hike. It's now a permanent part of my hiking gear, right next to the moleskin.

Keep a small tin in your pack for hotspots, small abrasions, lip balm, dry skin and nails. It works great for callouses on toes and rough spots on heels.

Great all purpose goop for Psoriasis

This little green tin has been a miracle for my psoriasis. My hands used to crack and peel and be overall really painful, till I started using Bag Balm. Some people find the smell a bit strong, if so, just use it when you are getting ready in the morning since it goes away really fast. It works great on scratches, cracked and irritated skin (as long as you aren't allergic to lanolin) because it has a small amount of antiseptic along with the moisturizing base. I love this stuff!

apply lots of petrleum jelly and after half an hour wash it with soap. it will soften the skin.
