Kinda gross question?!

Question: ok, I had this little hole on the top of my thumb, like a pinhole or something, right on the very tip of my fingertip, like right above the nail on my thumb. I don't know what it's from, maybe my cat scratched me there or something. Anyway, it really hurt and I looked at it today and there was something red sticking up out of the hole. I thought it was blood, but it looked really weird, it was sticking up pretty far. So I pulled on it, and a hard piece came out it was all red like blood. I thought that was weird then I looked later and it was there again but it wouldn't come out this time with pulling on it. So I took some scissors and cut it off, where it was even with my thumb, and it started bleeding profusely, I thought it was never going to stop. I put a band aid on it and thought it was healing, but I looked and the hard red piece is there again, sticking up out of the hole! What the heck is it?
