Can anyone suggestion anything other than Gentian violet to treat a skin complai!

Question: I have had creams from the doctor and they have not worked. It is a fungal infection underneath my breasts...I believe i contracted this when I was trying on bras. Ewww. I find this condition embarrassing to say the very least. And I read that gential violet will clear up this type of condition but it is now not recommened as a cure as it can cause cancer.

Naturally if you can suggest anything I will consult with my doctor first before trying. Thank you.

Gentian Violet (my mother's cure for everything) has mercury in it. So stay away from it.

Fungi love warm moist environments. Under boobs is a common place.

Wash and dry the area thoroughly 4 times a day in clean water. If you can, add a tablespoon of salt to a basinload, but if you are at work or somewhere where you can't, fresh water is still ok.

Cornflour (yes, the stuff you bake with) will help to prevent chafing. Using a sanitary pad underneath the fold of the boob will also help prevent a buildup of sweat etc. that feeds the fungus. But change it every time you wash and dry.

Stay away from talcum powder and creams, they both cause more problems with trapped moisture.

Change the bra every day. Never be tempted to recycle it, you will recontaminate the area.

I have been nursing in dermatology for years, this simple routine should at the very least minimise, if not cure, the problem. You will see results within 2 days.

If the antifungal cream is doing no good, you might be better with an oral tablet.

Eating acidopholus yoghurt might also help to put the balance of fungus in your system back in to balance.

If you have a fungal anything anywhere, avoid high sugar foods and soda drinks. The sugar feeds the fungus.

Try it - you will be surprised how well the simple things work.

As long as you have no open wound then good old fashioned surgical spirit is suffice.

Good old fashioned `Iodine` will do the trick. It will sting for a while but will clear up your trouble in no time. Good Luck.
