Cold sores??? HELP>?!

Question: What should I do if i just saw cold sores on my BF? Isn't that I sign of Herpes Simplex V 1. I mean does that mean that I might have it too... that he gave it to me.... we've been sexually active together since August. If i have it can i give it to my baby if he likes to kiss me near my lips? I'm freaking out. Help.

Yes, cold sores are a symptom of HSV1.
Yes, you can catch them from kissing him.

Most people (50% to 80%) already have HSV1. (So chances are good that you already had HSV1 before you were with your boyfriend.) They catch it in childhood exactly the way you describe - kissing relatives.

You can transmit herpes even when you have no symptoms, and in spite of what other people have said previously, you can indeed catch HSV1 on your genitals.

All you can do, really, is to be smart about not kissing your boyfriend when he has a cold sore, and not kissing your baby if/when you have a cold sore.

If you want to know more about herpes, how it is spread, the difference between HSV1 and HSV2, and different types of treatments, I'd suggest that you go to the web site of the American Social Health Association (ASHA). They have a lot of good, reliable information on herpes. And if you are in the US, they also have a toll-free hotline where you can talk to a real person.

Good luck.

Different type of herpes. The herpes that causes cold sores has NOTHING to do with sex. That's why young kids and adolescents who aren't sexually active can get them. But it can be transmitted through kissing and stuff. Go to the dr. and tell him your concerns. He will give you medicine to prevent anything.

(Also, about 95% of the population has this virus, but it's dormant and doesn't ever surface.)

Most people have cold sores, you probably have them too. It's not something to freak out about and it doesn't mean he has genital herpes.

There are different types of cold sores. This may be the virus related to the flu.

Don't panic almost everyone has cold sores, in fact it's like 90% of the population will have them. Yes it's herpes BUT not the kind you get from sex. It is contagious though and thats why most adults have cold sores. BTW chicken pox is also a version of herpes.

You can however get cold sores down below, so while he has cold sores refrain from oral sex.

A high percentage of people have Herpes simplex virus 1. he COULD pass it to you. i would avoid kissing and oral sex until it goes away. if you have oral sex, you could get type 2 which is genital herpes. you definetly dont want that.

Don't kiss him while he has a cold sore or when one is begining. Cold sores are contagious but they are not the same virus as the herpes on the gentials. Same name different letteres on the ends. Once the cold sore is compleltey gone his lips won't be contagious anymore. If you are worried about other STD's have him checked out by a doctor.

Just use ZOVIRAX or a similar cream from Boots....It works. The trick is: put it once you feel itchiness, the sooner you put it on tha betta!

mmmm

yes cold sores are herpes symplex 1. u can pass them through kissing they can be passed to your genitals through oral sex. just don't kiss him or let him give u oral when the sore is there. he could pass it to a baby if he kisses the kid with a cold sore.

Oh no chica - the cold sores are different from the open sores of Herpes. You don't have anything - and don't you think he would've told you? Especially if he felt comfy enough to actually let you see him in that condition. Nothing to worry about!
