Strep throat? Mono? Just the flu?!

Question: I'm going on night #3 and am determined to discover what is wrong with me. I've been showing the following symptoms persistently throughout the past 3 days:
- tonsils are very red and swollen (hard to swallow/breathe) and I can see white pus (I can't put my finger on whether it's spots or a full whitish covering, either way, tonsils are infected)
- extremely swollen glands in neck
- complete lack of energy
- chills
- headache
- mild fever (on day 1)
- minor earache (barely noticeable majority of the time)

I'm interested to know people's experiences and diagnosis that exhibited similar symptoms. Home-remedies and advice for seeking medical assistance would also be greatly appreciated.

It could be a combo of things, but I've had strep throat MANY times and these are definitely the symptoms. With strep, you feel sick, tired and can have fever because you have an infection in your body. For sure swollen glands , raw, infected tonsils and even earache could all be because of strep. This is really considered an "upper respiratory infection" and if you do not treat it, this could get into your lungs and turn into bronchotis and even pneumonia.

Since this is an infection and not a virus (although you could simultaneously have the flu...it is VERY prevelant this year) you should go to the doctor and get on some antibiotics to knock out the infection. Advil is actually very effective with body aches. Tylenol is also good, just don't mix the two. Do one or the other. And the #1 thing you should do for your throat IMMEDIATELY is start gargling with warm salt water 3-4 times a day. I promise you will notice relief within 24 hours.

Additionally, you should be taking 2000 mg of Vitamin C a day. Break it up into two doses a day. Also, Echinacia is great for boosting immune system, although it may be more effective at keeping you from getting sick (taken before the fact) than it is getting rid of an illness.

And finally, drink LOTS of water and get plenty of rest!

SAME THING HERE
i feel like crap =(

I would say it could be strep but in any case it sounds like tonsilitis and you would need an antibiotic for it. Call your doctor as without antibiotics an infection is liable to get worse or possibly spread! Good luck and feel better!!

im thinking the flu...mono and strepthroat dont just come like that, if uve had episodes of either one, then u could have them
but remember it is flu season...i caught it 11 days ago and havent gotten rid of it.

they all have similar symptoms...so dont rely on them

if ur worried about mono or streprthroat go take a culture test...any clinic or doc can do those for u

ask your doc to check ur tonsels...tonsilitis could be another problem...just go get checked kiddo

could be strep or mono or both. (mono affects your immune system, so strep and other infections often go hand-in-hand with it). the biggest telltale of mono is that you will feel absolutely wasted all the time and be more or less incapable of your normal daily activities. my advice is to go to a doctor and get it checked out. once you know, you can act accordingly. i had mono last fall and i went for a month before i was diagnosed -- not recommended!
hope you feel better soon!

Sounds like strep , maybe mono but not the flu. If you have strep and do not treat it you can die. It will cause your kidneys to fail. This is not something that "just goes away" worse case you go see a doctor, go to the er or an urgent care center. If you dont have money go to the er they cant refuse you if you dont have insurance.

Please get this checked !

See a Dr. pronto. If it is Strep pyrogenes the toxins from the stp bacteria can damage your heart muscle. As an acupuncturist I would still strongly suggest a Dr at this point
Not seeing a Dr if you have strep is exposing those around you

It's definitely an upper respiratory infection...tonsilitis has similiar symptoms of strep...get to a doctor..you need antibiotics..ask for Avelox it's the best I have taken . 1 pill every 24 hours and they are not "horse pills". Feel better

with chills, sounds like you have a fever & may need to see a DR for antibiotics.
wish you well.
