Is plantar fascitis the same as heel spurs? If no what is heel spurs?!

Question: No it is not the same thing. First, what Plantar Fascitis is: caused by straining the ligament that supports your arch.

Heel spurs, on the other hand, are bony growths on the heel, which many people associate with Plantar Fascitis. They are not the same, but many people have both of them at the same time. You can read more on these two topics on webmd.com

While these two diagnoses are related, they are not the same. Plantar fasciitis refers to the inflammation of the plantar fascia--the tissue that forms the arch of the foot. A heel spur is a hook of bone that can form on the heel bone (calcaneus) and is associated with plantar fasciitis.

a heal spur is a prominence on the bone of the heal itself, plantar fasciitis is with the fascia (tissue along the bottom of the foot is inflammed and irritated. The two tend to go hand in hand, cause if the fascia is taut enough and pulling it can cause a bone spur to occur, since it is attached to the heal bone if it pulls hard enough can cause a prominence to occur. Both are painful and can be helped with massage/physio, orthotics and exercise.

I don't know but I wanted to say I feel your pain. Both my husband and myself have plantar fascitis. His is chronic and he's in pain every day. My comes and goes. I am very careful.
