I coughed and my nose started bleeding!?!

Question: I have a cold, and around 3 times today my nose has started bleeding because I coughed. During all of the times that blood came out, it came out of only the right nostril. I really need to blow my nose right now, but I don't think I should because blood might start to come out. Sometimes snot/mucus comes out, and at other times it's blood. Which ever it is, I get no warning, it just starts to leak from my right nostril. My nose is really full... should I blow it, or not? Also, I feel that I need to sneeze, but I know I shouldn't and I'm trying very hard not to. I just sneezed and now instead of blood leaking out, mucus is.
What should I do?
...Oh great, now I need to sneeze again!

most likely to The most common cause of nose bleeds is trauma. A blow, smack, or sometimes just picking the nose. Dryness inside of the nose can also cause bleeding. High altitudes, colds, allergies and medications are all responsible for nose bleeds.

Treatment of lower end nose bleeds Sit up straight and pinch the nostrils together firmly for 10 minutes.
You can place a cold compress or an ice pack across the bridge of your nose.
Vaseline can be used if the cause of the nose bleed is dryness.
When the bleeding stops do not jump up and down, take things easy, do not blow your nose or it will dislodge the clot and will probably start your nose bleed again.
hope this helps

If a nose bleed does not stop after 10 to 20 minutes of direct pressure.

do with your cold and the mucus it is called synus drainage

Yeah, a mix of a cold and dry winter weather is bad for people prone to nosebleeds! I would just blow lightly, and be very very careful. Or hold your right nostril closed and blow the other one.

Also, it may help to 'plug' your nostrils with some tissue (if you are alone... otherwise you will look nuts!)

you need some humidity in your air

Go ahead and blow your nose, just not too vigorously or forcefully. Most likely, your sinus membranes are irritated and dried out. If you have a humidifier, use it in your bedroom while you're sleeping. You can also get some saline solution and spray it in your nose to keep it moist. If the area on the outside of your nose is dry too, just rub a little Vaseline around the nostrils.

Use saline nasal spray. It is probably because of the heater in your home. My sons all get nose bleeds in the winter. Also you can use a humidifier
