I remember having a ringworm as a child. My Dad used a mixture of Vaseline and Sulfer to cure it. Here are a couple of links that might answer your questions.

No. It is itchy and very contagious. Get some cream from the chemist.
Check your cat/dog for signs of it if you have one, and take it to the vet if it does have ringworm
ring worm is a fungal infection. it's very itchy. you need to apply anti-fungal cream. ketoconazole is a generic name for a common anti-fungal. you should apply the antifungal cream twice a day for 2 weeks or more. it takes that long to go away.
it's probably airborne, so you can catch it anywhere.
