Is thyroid disease a serious disease?!

Question: It is developing in me now. I am going to see a doctor tomorrow but I am afraid. I have MVP (Mitral Valve Prolapse) and I suffer from many other problems and doctors didn't help. I am afraid the doctor tomorrow is not going to help.

Thank you

Do you mean "Hyperthyroidism"?
Hyperthyroidism may affect your heart. Hyperthyroidism is characterized by hypermetabolism and elevated serum levels of free thyroid hormones. Symptoms are many but include tachycardia, fatigue, weight loss, and tremor. Diagnosis is clinical and with thyroid function tests. Treatment depends on cause.
Consult an Endocrinologist.

Can easily be controlled with synthetic thyroid hormone

I have many health issues. Recently started on Armour Thyroid (not synthetic). I also have MVP. I don't understand your concern that the doctor won't help...change doctors if you feel that way. My doc is great!

Thyroid disease is complicated. Seek the advice of an experienced endocrinoligist. General practioners do not specialize in the many aspects and complications of hypo- thyroidism.

It is serious but can be controlled with proper medication. Both my mother and my wife have thyroid disease and have it under control with meds. Good luck.
