Red cheeks on a two year old child?!

Question: my nephew recently started getting red cheeks. from what his mom has told me they get worse as the day goes on. i saw him today and it looks as though the redness gets vainy as it starts spread out.

he runs around like any two year old with no problem, no pain or fever just the red cheeks.

my sister seems to think its one of two things, which right now i can't remember but is there anyone that can narrow down what it sounds like or tell me straight up what it is. thanks

I have this same thing. I inherited it from my father and my children inherited it from me. I have been told that my blood vessels are just closer to the skin surface then most people. You say there is no fever or pain so I would not worry about it. I know when I am exceptionally tired or have been extremely busy it shows up more.

If you all are still worried you could just take him to the doctor to rule out rosacha (not sure if that spelling is correct) or lupis. When I go to a new doctor that my original doctor has sent me to they always like to question whether I have lupis or not because that is one of the symptoms. But then again, that rash is usually painful.

I hope this helps a little bit.

get it checked out

i too suffered from red cheek syndrome as a wee munchkin
and it was not pretty
he will soon grow out of this phase though
fear not!

I know an 20 year old that has had red cheeks all his life and it looks like hes cold or something!

But its just like that!

It may stay like that!

slap cheek? I had a friend whose son had this. His cheeks were pink all the time. I can't remember how they cured it though.

Ya, I'd say get it checked out. Might be an allergy. But...that also sounds like it could be teething.

maybe he has that disease thing like roseachia or something like that.

alot of things can cause this from chapped to lupus and other illness
see a doctor

Sounds like "Fifth's disease." The child needs to see a pediatrician.

My son does the same EXACT thing. He is 2 as well.

Fifth Disease:

Red cheeks that look as if they've been slapped; lacy red rash may appear on trunk and extremities; rash may be itchy; sometimes a slight fever, achiness; illness lasts about 7 to 10 days. Most common in preschool and school-aged children.

Fifth disease is caused by the human parvovirus B19. Despite all these scary sounding names, it's a relatively mild illness. It shows up most often in preschool- and school-age children in the spring, and most kids recover from it with no problems.

Hope this helps.
